About Us

Dr Elna McIntosh (PhD in Human Sexuality, D.Ed, Masters in Public Health) is a Health Care Professional with a special interest in Sexual Medicine. In 1983 she started working in an AIDS clinic and has 25 years of experience in Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV Care. Her entire career has been aimed toward a single set of goals: telling the truth about sexuality, helping people feel sexually normal and powerful, and supporting the healthy sexual expression and exploration of women and men.

Elna pursues her goal of a sexually enlightened world through clinical work, lectures, writing and TV and radio work. She has published 160 articles in magazines such as Marie Claire, Men's Health, Femina, Fair Lady, True Love and Rolling Inspirations. She also has regular contributions to medical journals and a quarterly sexology magazine.

Together with Mark Pilgrim she hosted the weekly late night M-Net show, Sex-Etc, an "info-tainment series" sponsored by Bayer Pharmaceuticals. Elna has a very popular radio show, on KAYA  - FM. This is a weekly feature and a Wednesday night show from 21h00 - 22h00. She is the co - host with Masechaba Moshoeshoe. Elna is that rare professional: truly expert in her subject, comfortable on live TV, and extremely funny. Her wit and expertise also make her a frequently-quoted expert.

A tireless speaker, she has given scores of keynote speeches, training programs, and popular lectures to groups including the Department of Family Medicine at Wits Medical School, the Advanced Psychology Department at UNISA, University of Johannesburg Nursing Department, The School of Public Health at Pretoria University.

Known and respected by colleagues, Elna has been elected a lifelong member of the Southern African Sexual Health Association. She is a member of the American College of Sexologists and the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, San Francisco, California. She is also a member of the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health and a lecturer for the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care. She holds a teaching post in California and returns there every October to teach a course in Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV Care.

Elna works each week with couples and individuals who have a variety of sexual and non-sexual difficulties. She lives in Sandton, with her husband, her enormous collection of books, DVD's and CD's. She has run 7 Comrades, climbed Kilimanjaro twice, 5 times Gold medal winner at the Iron Man triathlon and has paddled almost every river in South Africa, like most canoeists love both the Dusi and Fish river canoe marathons. She loves the rivers and the outdoors and spends most of her leisure time with the kids from her project Abafana 2 Amadoda (Boys 2 Men). She is was a finalist in the SABC 2 Shoprite/Checkers Woman of the Year award for the work that she has done with the children from the Valley of a Thousand Hills, in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
